Game Item & Sound
For the interactive objects, we selected iconic foods and items commonly found at Chinese barbecue stands, including chicken hearts, lamb, lotus roots, and Chinese chives skewers. Supporting items like bamboo baskets, packing boxes, and order pads reflect traditional Chinese elements, enhancing the game’s realism and immersion. The ambient sound features the lively background noise of a crowded night market, accompanied by upbeat Chinese-style music. Players can also trigger various sounds, such as sizzling and grilling noises, as they interact with the cooking process.
Interaction Design
All interactions are implemented using C# scripting in Unity, and the design focuses on two main aspects: 1) realistic cooking procedures and 2) gameplay-specific mechanics. Skewers cook naturally over time, with visual changes in texture, sizzling sounds, and smoke effects for added realism. The gameplay revolves around players receiving random food orders, checking if the prepared food matches the order, and interacting with the environment—such as food becoming dirty if dropped on the floor—further adding to the authentic experience.
Environment Design
The environment is inspired by real Asian night markets, with a cartoon-style aesthetic reminiscent of games like Animal Crossing and Mineko’s Night Market. A nighttime color palette featuring purples and greens creates a lively yet cozy atmosphere. The food stand is designed with a compact layout, allowing players to move naturally within the space, mimicking the limited area of an actual stand. Shelves for raw food and cooked items are clearly defined, and warm ambient lighting enhances the authentic night market vibe while creating a welcoming atmosphere for the player.
